Engine: Service Precautions
Valvetrain
• Cracked cylinder heads that are between the valve seats or between a valve seat ring and the sparkplug thread can be reused without negatively affecting their service life as long as the cracks are minimal-i.e. max. 0.3 mm wide-or only if the first four threads on the spark plug thread are cracked.
• After installing new hydraulic valve lifters, the engine may not be started for approximately 30 minutes. Otherwise the valves will impact the pistons.
• Turn over the engine carefully at least two turns after working on the valvetrain. This assures the valve do not strike the piston when starting the engine.
