Engine: Service Precautions

Valvetrain

Cracked cylinder heads that are between the valve seats or between a valve seat ring and the sparkplug thread can be reused without negatively affecting their service life as long as the cracks are minimal-i.e. max. 0.3 mm wide-or only if the first four threads on the spark plug thread are cracked.

After installing new hydraulic valve lifters, the engine may not be started for approximately 30 minutes. Otherwise the valves will impact the pistons.

Turn over the engine carefully at least two turns after working on the valvetrain. This assures the valve do not strike the piston when starting the engine.
