Tie Rod Length, Checking and Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275)
Perform the Following Work:
- Check left tie rod for dimension "a" and adjust if necessary.
Dimension - a - = 376.6 +/- 1 mm
• Also check new tie rods for dimension "a" before installing and adjust if necessary.
• The total toe must be checked on the alignment rack and adjusted if necessary. Boot, Installing
- Check boot for wear (slits, cracks) and check sealing surfaces of boot for dirt.
- Install boot. Turn the tie rod so that the tie rod ball joint shank is in the installation position.
- Tension clamp using (V.A.G 1275).
• Only use original clamps.
• Take care not to twist the boot when installing it.
