Oil Pan, Pump and Balance Shaft Module Overview
1 Oil Drain Plug
• 30 Nm
• With a seal, cannot get lost, rolled onto the drain plug.
2 Oil Pan
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Oil Pan.
3 Suction Pipe
• Clean the screen if it is dirty.
4 Bolt
• 9 Nm
5 Connection
• To the oil pump.
6 O-ring
• Always replace.
7 Oil Pump
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.
• Make sure both alignment bushings for centering the oil pump to the balance shaft module are actually there before installing.
8 Driveshaft
• For oil pump
9 Lock Ring
• Must lie in the base of the groove.
• Replace a damaged or stretched lock ring.

11 Balance Shaft Module
• Removing, refer to => [ Balance Shaft Module ] Service and Repair.
• Installing a used balance shaft module. Refer to => [ Used Balance Shaft Module, Installing ] Service and Repair.
• Installing a new balance shaft module. Refer to => [ New Balance Shaft Assembly, Installing ] Service and Repair.
• Make sure both alignment bushings for centering the balance shaft module to the cylinder block are actually there before installing.
12 Spur Gear
• For the balance shaft.
13 Bolt
• 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• Always replace.
14 Bolt
• 90 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• Always replace.
• With a washer.
15 Hub
• For the intermediate sprocket.
• Always replace.
16 Intermediate Sprocket
• Always replace.
• To achieve the correct backlash, a coating is applied to the intermediate sprocket. The correct play is achieved as the coating wears away.
• Installed position: The part number must be visible.
• Make sure the axial bearing disc fits correctly. Refer to => [ Axial Bearing Disc Installed Position ].
17 Axial Bearing Disc
• For the intermediate sprocket.
• Always replace.
• Installed position, refer to => [ Axial Bearing Disc Installed Position ].
• For installing the intermediate sprocket, secure to the balance shaft module with grease.
18 Crankcase
• With the crankshaft.
• Crankshaft toothed gear for the oil pump drive.
19 Bolt
• M7 tighten to 13 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• M8 tighten to 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• Always replace.
• Observe the tightening sequence.
• Installing a new balance shaft module. Refer to => [ New Balance Shaft Assembly, Installing ] Service and Repair.
• Install the used balance shaft module. Refer to => [ Used Balance Shaft Module, Installing ] Service and Repair.
20 Alignment Bushing
21 Bolt
• 9 Nm
22 Oil Pipe
23 Bolt
• 9 Nm
24 Bolt
• Always replace.
• Tightening sequence and specification, refer to => [ Oil Pan Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ].
Oil Pan Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification
• Replace the oil pan bolts.
- Tighten the bolt in 3 steps:
Axial Bearing Disc Installed Position
Danger of the axial bearing disc slipping behind the intermediate sprocket.
• Make sure the axial bearing disc - A - does not slip out of the recesses on the balance shaft module during installation - arrows - which could then get stuck. Secure to the balance shaft module with grease if necessary.
