Engine Speed Sensor: Service and Repair






Engine Speed Sensor G28

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly Tool (T10118)

Hex Ball Socket SW 4 (T10370)

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Removing

Component location, see - item 4 - in the => [ Dual Mass Flywheel and Sealing Flange Overview ] Dual Mass Flywheel and Sealing Flange Overview.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Disconnect the coolant hoses from the engine oil cooler, clamp off the hoses using the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094).






- Loosen the spring clamps - arrows - with the hose clip pliers (VAS 6362).

Collect any leaking fluid with the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208).

- Remove the coolant hoses from the engine oil cooler.

- Remove the oil filter bracket and engine oil cooler. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Bracket with Oil Cooler ] Oil Filter Bracket with Oil Cooler.

- Release and disconnect the connector from the engine speed sensor using the assembly tool (T10118).






- Loosen the bolt - arrow - using the socket wrench SW 4 (T10370) and remove the engine speed sensor.






Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

- Install the oil filter bracket and the engine oil cooler. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Bracket with Oil Cooler ] Oil Filter Bracket with Oil Cooler.

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.
