Transmission Code Letter, Reading

Transmission Code Letter, Reading

The transmission code letters are on the transmission in at least two different locations.

On the transmission near the selector lever cable - two arrows -.

If these cannot be read, the transmission code letters under the transmission mount bracket can also be read.

To read the code letters under the transmission mount bracket, the engine and transmission must be supported. The transmission mount bracket - A - must be removed. Lower the engine/transmission just enough until it is possible to slide the bracket toward the rear. If lowered further, the pendulum support could be damaged. After being assembled, the selector lever cable must be adjusted. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

Removing the transmission mount bracket:

- Remove the air filter housing

- For vehicles with a diesel engine, remove the battery and the battery tray.

Install the engine support bridge (10-222 A) and support engine/transmission. Do not lift up yet.

- Remove the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts - 2 - and the transmission mount bracket to transmission bolts - 2 -.

All the bolts must be replaced.

- Then, lower the engine/transmission slightly using the engine support bridge (10-222 A) spindles until the transmission mount bracket can be removed.

In most cases, 2 turns on the spindles are enough to remove the transmission mount bracket - arrow -.

After reading the transmission code letters, reassemble in the reverse order of removal.

- Follow all instructions.

- Replace all the bolts for the transmission mount/bracket.

- Install all the new bolt hand tight.

- Install the transmission mount bracket - A - to the transmission bolts - 1 - and the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts - 2 -. Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mounts Overview ] Service and Repair.

- After installing the transmission mount bracket, adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
