Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor
Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor
Observe safety precautions when working on seat occupied recognition. Refer to => [ Passive Occupant Detection System Safety Precautions ] Passive Occupant Detection System Safety Precautions.
• Replace the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) and the front seat cushion together.
• The passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) may not be replaced separately.
• There are different versions of the front seat ("Basis", "Sport" ) and different versions of the sensor.
• The differences in the sensors are minimal and appear only in the Assembly Overview of the "Basis" front seat.
• Removing and installing the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) is described for the manual "Basis" front seat.
• Removing and installing on the other versions of the front seat is identical.
Disconnecting Connectors from Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module
Disconnecting Voltage Supply Connector
- Open the release - 1 -. Disconnect the connector - 4 - from the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 5 -.
Disconnecting Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor (G452) Connector
- Pull the catch - 2 - on the release - 3 - upward.
- Open the release - 3 -. Disconnect the connector - 6 - from the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 5 -.
• The connectors - 4 - and - 6 - on the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 5 - have seals. The seal protect against moisture.
• Avoid removing and then installing the seal so that the seal remains tight.
• Route the wiring harnesses as before after replacing any components one they have been connected to the control module.
Removing
- Attach the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) to the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the right trim on the seat.
Vehicles with Manual Seat Adjustment
- Remove the left trim on the seat:
• Remove the left trim on the seat without height adjustment. Refer to => [ Right Front Passenger Seat without Height Adjustment Trim Piece ] Right Front Passenger Seat without Height Adjustment Trim Piece.
• Remove the left trim on the seat with manual height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim with Manual Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim with Manual Height Adjustment.
- Remove the bracket and the lever on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever ] Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever.
Vehicles with Electric Seat Adjustment
- Remove the left trim on the seat with power height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment.
- Remove the bracket on the power seat. Refer to => [ Power Seat Bracket ] Power Seat Bracket.
All Vehicles
- Remove the mount for the drawer (if equipped) on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Drawer with Bracket ] Front Seat Drawer with Bracket.
- Remove the front seat backrest - 1 -.
- Remove cover from upholstery of front seat cushion (front seat cushion is not removed). Refer to => [ Lower Seat Frame Cover and Cushion ] Lower Seat Frame Cover and Cushion.
- if equipped, disconnect the connector for the front seat cushion heating element.
- Disconnect the connector - 4 - from the seat occupied sensor - 2 - on the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 3 - => [ Disconnecting Connectors from Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module ].
- Remove the seat occupied sensor wiring harness - 5 - from the seat frame.
- Remove the seat cushion and passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - from the lower seat frame.
The passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - is permanently glued to the seat cushion - 2 -. Removing and installing it separately is not permitted. Replace the seat occupied sensor with the seat cushion.
If there is a seat heating element, then replace this as well. Removing and installing it separately is not permitted.
To prevent any removed components from being installed again by mistake, the components should be separated from each other and disposed.
The following work applies to these components.
- Remove the wiring harness - 2 - for the sensor - 3 - from the channel and guide it through the seat cushion - 1 -.
- Loosen the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 - starting from - direction of arrow A - to - direction of arrow B -.
- Remove the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 -.
Installation
• Route the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) so that it has no bends.
• After replacing the passenger occupant detection system, passenger classification system basic setting must be performed with the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding" => [ Components, Adapting ] Service and Repair.
• If the vehicle has heated seats, make sure the heating element is always installed under the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452). The seat occupied sensor will not function correctly otherwise.
The basic setting must be performed with the seat empty.
- Guide the wiring harness - 2 - through the opening inside the seat cushion - 3 - and secure it to the channel - 3 -.
• Make sure the entire wiring harness - 2 - is guided through the seat cushion and that there are no wires inside the channel - 3 -.
- Place the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 5 - on the seat cushion.
- Position the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 5 - on the seat cushion so that the positioning aids - 1 - and - 4 - line up with each other.
- Remove off the peel-off backing - 5 - from the side position aids - 4 - and press the passenger occupant detection sensor - 1 - on the seat cushion - 6 - without bending it.
- Remove the peel-off backing - 2 - from the side position aids - 3 - and press it on the seat cushion - 6 - without bending it.
- Remove the peel-off backing - 7 - from the front position aids - 8 - and press it on the seat cushion - 6 - without bending it.
- Install the seat occupied sensor - 4 - on the seat frame - 3 - and secure it as illustrated.
- Connect the connector - 1 - on the wiring harness - 4 - to the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 2 -.
• The passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) connectors have seals. The seal protect against moisture.
• Avoid removing and then installing the seal so that the seal remains tight.
• Route the wiring harnesses as before after replacing any components one they have been connected to the control module.
Further assembling is in reverse order of removal.
Ensure no one is in the vehicle when the battery is connected.
- Connect the battery.
