Shift and Selector Cables Overview
• Lubricate the bearing areas and the sliding surfaces. Grease allocation, refer to the => Parts Catalog.
1 Gear Shift Unit
2 Sliding Shoe
3 Relay Lever
• Made of plastic.
• Installed position, refer to => [ Shift Lever/Relay Lever, Installed Position ].
• Remove and install together with the cable retainer (- item 4 -).
• To install, lubricate, refer to => [ Relay Lever, Lubricating ].
• Adjust the shift mechanism after installing. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
• On the gear shift unit, disconnecting and connecting, refer to => [ Remove and Installing the Relay Lever to the Gear Shift Unit and Shift Lever ].
4 Cable Retainer
• For attaching the selector cable to the relay lever.
• Adjust the shift mechanism after installing. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
• Do not interchange, the cable locking mechanisms for the selector cable to relay lever and the shift cable to the shift lever are different.
• Removing from the selector cable, refer to => [ Removing the Cable Retainer from the Shift and Selector Cables ].
• Allocation, refer to => [ Cable Retainer Allocation ].
• Removing from the relay lever, refer to => [ Prying the Selector Cable Retainer Off of the Relay Lever ].
• Pressing onto the relay lever, refer to => [ Installing the Selector Cable Retainer onto the Relay Lever ].
5 Shift Lever, Transmission
• With a balance weight.
• Install so that the master spline aligns with shift shaft. Refer to => [ Shift Lever, Installing ].
• To install, lubricate, refer to => [ Shift Lever, Lubricating ].
• Installed position, refer to => [ Shift Lever/Relay Lever, Installed Position ].
• Adjust the shift mechanism after installing. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
6 Nut
• 23 Nm
• Always replace.
• Self-locking.
7 Cable Retainer
• For attaching the shift cable to the shift lever.
• Adjust the shift mechanism after installing. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
• Do not interchange, the cable locking mechanisms for the selector cable to the relay lever and for the shift cable to the shift lever are different.
• Allocation, refer to => [ Cable Retainer Allocation ].
• Disconnect from the shift cable, refer to => [ Removing the Cable Retainer from the Shift and Selector Cables ].
8 Lock Washer
• Removing, refer to => [ Removing and Installing the Shift Cable from the Shift Lever ].
• Always replace.
9 Lock Washer
• Always replace.
• Be careful not to damage the cables when removing them.
10 Selector Cable
• Attaches to the cable retainer (- item 4 -).
• Installed position, refer to => [ Shift and Selector Cables, Installed Position ] Shift and Selector Cables, Installed Position.
• Secured to the shift cable with a cable tie. Refer to => [ Cable Tie, Installed Position ].
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Shift and Selector Cables ] Shift and Selector Cables.
11 Shift Housing
12 Lock Washer
• Always replace.
• Be careful not to damage the cables when removing them.
13 Shift Cable
• Attaches to the cable retainer (- item 7 -).
• Installed position, refer to => [ Shift and Selector Cables, Installed Position ] Shift and Selector Cables, Installed Position.
• Secured to the selector cable with a cable tie. Refer to => [ Cable Tie, Installed Position ].
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Shift and Selector Cables ] Shift and Selector Cables.
14 Cable Bracket
• Made of plastic.
15 Bolt
• 20 Nm
• Quantity: 3
• For securing the cable bracket to the transmission.
16 Grommet
• For the cable bracket to the transmission.
17 Spacer
18 Clip
• For the relay lever
Cable Retainer Allocation
These holes have different diameters.
Shift Lever, Installing
- When positioning the shift lever, make sure the gap - arrow A - is placed over the missing gear shift shaft teeth - arrow B -.
Shift Lever, Lubricating
• Lubricate the shift lever guide rail - B -, into which the relay lever engages, especially carefully.
• Grease allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• The illustration of the shift lever may differ from the original part.
Shift Lever/Relay Lever, Installed Position
1 Shift lever with a balance weight
2 The relay lever fits into the guide rail on the shift lever via the sliding shoe - arrow -.
Removing the Cable Retainer from the Shift and Selector Cables
- Pull the locking mechanism all the way forward the - direction of arrow 1 - and lock it in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
- Remove the cable - B - from the cable retainer - A -.
Removing and Installing the Shift Cable from the Shift Lever
Removing
- Lift the clamp and remove the lock washer - 1 - from the shift lever - 2 -.
- Remove the shift cable from the pin - arrow -.
Installing
• Replace the lock washer for the shift cable.
• Coat the pin - arrow - with a small quantity of grease.
- Press the shift cable onto the shift lever - 2 - pin and secure it with the lock washer - 1 -.
Relay Lever, Lubricating
• Lubricate the shaft - A - on the relay lever carefully - arrows - with 0.2 g.
• Grease allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• The illustration of the relay lever may differ from the original part.
Remove and Installing the Relay Lever to the Gear Shift Unit and Shift Lever
Removing
- Remove the clip - arrow 1 - and then remove the relay lever together with the cable retainer - arrow 2 -.
Installing
• Lubricating the bearing areas and sliding surfaces, refer to => [ Relay Lever, Lubricating ]. Grease allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Install the relay lever and cable retainer - arrow 2 - all the way into the gear shift cover.
- Install the clip - arrow 1 - and make sure it is locked into place.
Prying the Selector Cable Retainer Off of the Relay Lever
• The relay lever is removed.
- Insert a screwdriver - A - between the bushing - B - and the relay lever.
Installing the Selector Cable Retainer onto the Relay Lever
• The relay lever is removed.
• The cable retainer may only be installed at the bushing - arrow -.
• The cable retainer must move freely on the relay lever.
• The cable retainer must be behind the tab.
• Make sure it engages securely.
Cable Tie, Installed Position
- Wrap the cable tie - arrow - in a crossover pattern around the cables and secure it as illustrated.
