Backrest Cover and Cushion
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pliers (3392)
• Engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095)
• Fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136)
• Upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634)
• Removing and installing the components is described for the left seat. Removing and installing the components from the right seat is identical.
Removing
- Attach the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) to the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the front seat backrest.
- Attach the backrest on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Push the button in the headrest and remove it from the backrest.
Vehicles with Manual Lumbar Support Adjustment
- Remove the lumbar adjustment lever - 4 - using disassembly pliers (3392). Refer to => [ Lumbar Adjustment Lever ] Lumbar Adjustment Lever
All Vehicles
- Open the retaining channel - 3 - in - direction of arrow -.
- Fold the backrest cover - 1 - carefully over the headrest guides - 2 -.
- Fold up the backrest cover - 1 - slightly upward.
- Remove the clips - 4 - on the cushion - 1 - from the mounts - 2 -.
- Fold the backrest cover - 1 - up further and remove it from the cushion - 3 -.
- Push the cushion - 3 - over both headrest guides and remove it from the backrest frame.
Vehicles with Seat Heating
• If, on a vehicle with seat heating, the cushion - 1 - or the backrest heating element - 2 - is faulty, always replace both components.
Installation
- Push the cushion - 3 - over both headrest guides and onto the backrest frame.
- Attach the backrest cover - 1 - to the cushion - 3 - using new upholstery clips - 2 - all the way around at the locations shown - 4 - using upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634).
Further assembling is in reverse order of removal.
• Check all the fasteners for damage and replace if necessary.
