Hydraulic System, Bleeding
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234)
• or Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (V.A.G 1869)
• Bleed the system after working on the hydraulic clutch mechanism.
• Make sure no brake fluid gets on the longitudinal member or transmission when performing the following work.
• It is not necessary to pre-fill the system.
• Before bleeding, fill the brake fluid reservoir to the "MAX" mark with brake fluid.
• The clutch pedal is in the neutral position and is not pressed.
• Brake fluid: allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Remove the engine cover with the air filter.
- Disconnect the connecting pipe (if equipped) and vent tube - arrows - and remove the connecting pipe from the throttle valve.
- Connect the brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or (V.A.G 1869).
Use the bleeder hose (670 mm) (V.A.G 1238/B3).
- Connect the bleed hose to the brake bleeder unit collector bottle.
- Attach the bleed hose to the vent valve - arrow -.
- Turn on the brake charger/bleeder unit.
- Apply 2 bar pressure to the system.
- Open the vent valve.
- Allow approximately 100 cm3 of brake fluid to flow out.
- Close the vent valve.
- Press the clutch pedal rapidly from stop to stop, 10 to 15 times.
- Open the vent valve again.
- Let another 50 cm3 of brake fluid flow out.
- Close the vent valve.
- Press the clutch pedal a few times after bleeding the system.
