Door Locks: Service and Repair
Door Lock
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Socket (3410)
• The following describes removing and installing the lock on a right door. Removing and installing the left door lock is identical.
Removing
Perform the following:
- Remove the front door trim panel.
- Remove the cover. Refer to => [ Door Cover ] Door Cover.
- Remove the cap - 3 -.
- Disconnect the connector - 4 -.
- Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to => [ Lock Cylinder ] Lock Cylinder.
- Remove the bolts - 2 -.
- Remove the door lock - 1 - from the door.
• Loosen the cables for the following work.
Loosening the cable for the bracket.
- Turn the cable - 5 - 90° and remove it - arrow a -.
- Move the cable - arrow b - until it can be guided out of the eye in the door lock - 1 - - arrow c -.
Loosening the cable for the interior door mechanism
- Turn the cable - 6 - 90° and remove it.
- Move the cable - arrow d - until it can be guided out of the eye in the door lock - 1 - - arrow e -.
Installation
Perform the following:
- Install the cables - 6 - and - 5 - to the door lock - 1 -.
- Insert the door lock - 1 - into the door.
- Connect the harness connector - 4 -.
- Install the bolts - 2 -.
Tightening specification - 2 -: 18 Nm
- Install the cap - 3 -.
Install in reverse order of removal.
• Always perform a functionality test afterwards. The door lock will not unlock if the cables are not adjusted correctly and the door will not open.
