Ignition System: Service and Repair






Ignition System Assembly Overview

The engine speed sensor is located on the cylinder block. Refer to => [ Engine Speed Sensor ] Service and Repair.






1 Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage (N70, N127, N291, N292, N323, N324)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage ] Service and Repair.

2 Connector

Black

Use the assembly tool (T10118) to disconnect.

3 Bracket

For the knock sensor 1 connector.

4 Bolt

20 Nm

5 Connector

Black, 3 pin

Contacts are gold plated.

6 Knock Sensor 1 (G61)

Installed location: Exhaust side of the cylinder block.

7 Bolt

20 Nm

Tightening specification affects the function of the knock sensor.

8 Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster

Identification: 32A

With the sensor wheel for the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 2.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.

9 Cover

10 Connector

Black, 3 pin

Contacts are gold plated.

Mark the connector before disconnecting.

11 Bolt

10 Nm

12 Camshaft Position Sensor 2 (G163)

For the exhaust camshaft

Contacts are gold plated.

13 Seal

Always replace.

14 Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)

For the intake camshaft.

Contacts are gold plated sensor.

15 Knock Sensor 2 (G66)

Installed location: Intake side of the cylinder block.

Contacts are gold plated.

16 Connector

Black, 2 pin

Contacts are gold plated.

17 Intake Camshaft Adjuster

Identification: 24E

With the sensor wheel for the CMP sensor.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.

18 Spark Plug

18 Nm

Remove and install using the spark plug removal tool (3122 B).

Type and electrode gap, refer to => [ Technical Data and Spark Plugs ] Technical Data and Spark Plugs.

19 Control Housing

For the camshaft adjustment.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.
