Generator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Locking Pin (T10060 A)

Always follow the instructions in the Repair Information exactly when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the right front wheel housing liner..

Mark the top of the ribbed belt and the running direction before removal. Make sure the belt is installed correctly and pay attention to the running direction. The belt will fail if it installed opposite the running direction or if is installed incorrectly.

- Mark the direction of travel of the ribbed belt.

- Swivel the tensioner in - direction of arrow - using a 16 mm wrench to release the tension.






- Lock the tensioner - 2 - in place using (T10060 A) - 1 -.






- Remove ribbed belt.

Remove the A/C compressor and tie to the to the body using wire.

- Remove the nut - arrow - from the wire holder.






- Disconnect the terminal 61 connector - 2 -.






- Remove the cap - 1 -.

- Open the retainer - 3 - and remove the line from the retainer.

- Remove the nut - 1 - on the B+ wire - 2 - from the generator and then move the B+ wire to the side.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - from the tensioning roller - 2 - and then remove the tensioning roller.






- Unscrew the mounting bolts of the generator - arrows -.






- Remove the generator downward from the vehicle.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

When installing an already used ribbed belt, note direction of travel marked when it was removed!

Before installing the ribbed belt, make sure all components (generator and A/C compressor) are securely fastened.

When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is properly seated in the belt pulley!

- Move the threaded bushings - A - in the generator housing approximately 2 mm in - direction of arrow -.






- Attach the wire holder - arrow - to the back of the generator in the 9 o'clock position.






- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Generator Overview ] Generator Overview.

Observe the information regarding the threaded connection of the battery terminals => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal

- Connect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Start the engine and make sure the belt it running correctly.

- Turn off the engine.
