Clutch End Cover, Installing
Clutch End Cover, Installing
Short Description
Always replace the clutch end cover and the lock ring. Never use a hammer to install the cover and never lubricate the center seal or touch it.
Do not touch the hole in the center of a new end cover. The cover must not be touched inside the hole, oiled or come into contact with any other substances in that area. Leaks will develop.
- Only handle the cover as shown in this illustration!
• There are two types of covers.
• Covers that are delivered without a bushing.
• Covers that are delivered with a white bushing.
Covers that are delivered without a bushing:
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Clean the assembly sleeve (T10302) before using it, and do not use any scratched sleeves.
The new cover must not have any oil in or around the center seal and it must be dry.
- If necessary, clean the end of the clutch shaft also.
Do not apply any sealant to the inside of the cover.
- Carefully remove any sealant if it has already been applied!
Only coat the outer edge of the seal with oil.
- Place the assembly sleeve (T10302) on a level surface.
The center seal in the new cover must now be "pre-formed":
- Install the cover horizontally and evenly over the entire sleeve. This bring the sealing lip into its installed position.
- Remove the sleeve upward out of the cover and place it on the end of the clutch shaft.
- Guide the cover horizontally over the sleeve and press it evenly onto its seat.
Handle with care. If the cover is hit in any way, leakage will definitely occur.
The cover can be pried out of its seat using a screwdriver to install the new lock ring.
- Install the new lock ring.
