Driveshaft with Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

When disassembling and performing repairs on vehicle, the drive axles must not be allowed to hang down and contact the stops in the joint by overflexing.

Perform The Following:

Removing

- Remove the driveshaft bolt => [ Threaded Connection Between Driveshaft and Wheel Hub, Loosening and Tightening ] Procedures.

Wheel bearings must not be burdened when drive axle connection is loose.

If the wheel bearings are under the load of the vehicle weight, the wheel bearing will be damaged. This reduces the service life of the wheel bearings.

The driveshaft bolt may be loosened maximum 90° when the vehicle is standing on its wheels.

Vehicles without a driveshaft must not be moved, otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged. If a vehicle must be moved, be sure to note the following:

Install an outer joint in place of the driveshaft.

Tighten the outer joint to 120 Nm.

- Remove the lower noise insulation.

- Loosen the wheel bolts.

- Raise the vehicle.

- Remove the wheel.

- Disconnect drive axle from transmission axle flange.

- Remove the nuts - arrows -.

- Remove both the wheel bearing housing and ball joint from the control arm.

- Remove the driveshaft from the wheel hub.

Remove any paint residue and/or corrosion on the outer joint threads/splines.

- Insert driveshaft.

- Install the outer joint as far as possible into the wheel hub splines.

- Attach the ball joint to the control arm - arrows -.

Make sure that the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.

- Install inner joint of drive axle and initially tighten bolts diagonally to 10 Nm.

- Tighten the internal multi-point bolts diagonally to the tightening specification.

- Tighten driveshaft bolt onto the wheel hub. Refer to => [ Threaded Connection Between Driveshaft and Wheel Hub, Loosening and Tightening ] Procedures.

Vehicle must not be standing on its wheels when doing this, otherwise wheel bearing will be damaged.
