Battery, Connecting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Risk of injury. Observe the warnings and safety precautions. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ]
Observe the information regarding the threaded connection of the battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ]
• After connecting the battery and switching on the ignition, the ASR/ESP indicator lamp (K155) lights up continuously. The indicator lamp goes out automatically when vehicle is driven a distance straight ahead at 15 to 20 km/h (9 to 12 mph). This activates Steering Angle Sensor (G85).
Follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
Central battery venting hose must not be kinked, closed and/or damaged. Battery acids pose health risks and are explosive. Carefully route the hose making sure the battery is free and cannot emit any vapors into the passenger compartment.
- Attach the positive cable - 2 - to the battery positive terminal. Tighten the bolt to the tightening specification given in the overview, refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.
- Attach the ground cable - 1 - to the negative terminal. Tighten the bolt to the tightening specification given in the overview, refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.
- Perform the work steps listed in the Table.
