Access/Start Authorization, KESSY

Access/Start Authorization, KESSY

When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair information. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair. Not following the sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

Access/Start Authorization Switch (E415) (starter switch) is one unit and can only be replaced completely.

The Access/Start Authorization Control Module (J518) is integrated in the Comfort control module. Perform the procedure if the access/start authorization control module was replaced.

General Description

The anti-theft immobilizer reader module and the Ignition Switch Key Lock Solenoid (N376) are integrated in the access/start authorization switch (E415) and cannot be replaced separately.

All faults related to the access/start authorization switch are transmitted via the access/start authorization control module and the Comfort System Central Control Module (J393).

In this vehicle, the ignition key lock is electro-mechanically released.

To remove ignition key in vehicles with automatic transmission, always shift selector lever into position "P" and then switch off ignition. Otherwise, ignition switch key lock solenoid prevents the key from being removed (key lock)!

The ignition key lock assures that the ignition key is not accidentally removed.

DTC Recognition and Display

The access/start authorization is equipped with OBD, which makes it easier to perform Fault Finding.

The "Guided Fault Finding" function is to be used for troubleshooting of the systems as described in => [ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information Systems ] Testing and Inspection.
