Front Brakes Overview, Brembo 18", 1LJ

• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.

• Use brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or extraction device (V.A.G 1869/4) to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.

• Before removing brake caliper or disconnecting brake hose, brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2) must be inserted (this dissipates pressure).






1 Brake Disc

• Internally ventilated brake disc: Diameter 368 mm

• Brake disc thickness: 36 mm

• Wear limit: 34 mm

• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.

• Left differs to right.

• Remove the brake caliper, the bracket for the brake hose and install the assembly pins (T10439). Do not disconnect the brake hose.

2 Bolt

• 15 Nm

• Brake disc to wheel hub.

3 Wire for Brake Pad Wear Indicator

4 Brake Caliper

• Do not remove brake hose when replacing brake pads or brake discs.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Brake Caliper.

• Servicing, refer to => [ Front Brake Caliper Overview, Brembo 18", 1LJ ] Front Brake Caliper Overview, Brembo 18", 1LJ.

5 Retaining Spring

• For the brake pads.

6 Bolt

• 30 Nm + 90° turn

• Always replace if removed.

• Service the thread in the wheel bearing housing. Refer to => [ Thread for the Threaded Brake Caliper Connection, Servicing ] Procedures.

7 Dust Cap

• Install onto bleeder valve.

• As a bracket for the brake pad wear display wire.

8 Brake Pads

• Thickness 10 mm without backing plate.

• Wear limit: 2 mm without backing plate.

• With wear indicator.

• When wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm), the warning lamp lights up in instrument cluster.

• Check the thickness.

• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.

9 Brake Hose

• 14 Nm

10 Bolt

• 9 Nm

11 Upper Bracket

• Bolt to wheel bearing housing.

12 Bolt

• 20 Nm

13 Lower Bracket

• Bolt to wheel bearing housing.
