Parking Brake Shoes
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hook (3438)
• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester (VAS 5051)
Removing
• Mark the brake shoes when removing them if they are going to be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise the air gap will change and the braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove rear wheels.
(VAS 5051) , connecting and selecting functions, refer to => [ VAS 5051, Connecting and Selection Functions ] Testing and Inspection.
- Select the electro-mechanical parking brake and then "Moving piston of parking brake motor out and in".
- Move the parking brake motors into its installed position with the (VAS 5051).
• Carefully disconnect the connector from the parking brake motor. If the brake rotor/brake drum are removed, there could be a problem if, for example, the key is removed and then the parking brake motor closes the parking brake.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the parking brake motor.
- Remove brake caliper from wheel bearing housing.
- Remove brake caliper and secure with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not burden or damage the brake hose.
- Remove the fitting bolt - 1 -.
- Remove the brake disc/brake drum - 2 -.
- Remove the spring - 1 - and the return spring - 2 -.
- Remove spring dowel sleeves - 3 + 4 - with compression springs and remove brake shoes.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Additional steps:
Grease the brake shoes and the parking brake motor mount - arrows -.
- Coat the brake shoe bar - 1 - and the parking brake motor mount - 2 - on the slide and side walls with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3.
Do not spill any grease on the brake shoe friction surface and brake drum!
- Perform a basic setting on the electro-mechanical parking brake.
