Engine, Installing
Engine, Installing
• When installing the engine and transmission assembly into the body, it is always necessary to bring the engine carrier into contact with the body using the scissor lift table (VAS 6131). "Pulling up" the engine carrier with the bolts damages the threaded inserts!
Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters before installing the engine.
Note the following whenever working inside the engine compartment due to limited space:
• Route all lines and wires in their original locations.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- Move the engine and transmission assembly under the vehicle using the scissor lift table (VAS 6131). Pay attention to the locating pins (T10300).
- Install the subframe to the vehicle.
- Reconnect all lines, hoses and electrical connections that were disconnected during the removal procedure.
- On hybrid vehicles, it is very important the contact surfaces for the potential equalization cable are clean and have no grease on them. Clean the contact surfaces.
- Install the plenum chamber cover.
- Install the right and left wiper arms.
- Connect the lines for the Air Conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to "Refrigerant Circuit Components".
- Charge the A/C system with refrigerant.
- Fill the power steering fluid.
- Fill the coolant for the high temperature coolant circuit. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling, High Temperature Coolant Circuit ] Draining and Filling, High Temperature Coolant Circuit.
- Fill the coolant for the low temperature coolant circuit. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling, Low Temperature Coolant Circuit ] Draining and Filling, Low Temperature Coolant Circuit.
- Fill the engine oil, as necessary.
- Connect the battery.
- Enable the high voltage system.
- Bleed the clutch.
- Adjust the selector lever cable.
- Fill the transmission with fluid.
- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester.
- Perform a vehicle system test. Refer to "Guided Fault Finding" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
- End the vehicle system test in such a way that any possibly existing Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries are automatically erased.
- Calibrate the electro-drive drive motor. Refer to "Guided Functions" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
- Create the readiness code with a road test.
Always observe all safety precautions when performing the road test.
- Perform another vehicle system test and correct any faults.
• If, during the road test, it is discovered that the steering wheel is not exactly straight when driving in a straight line, then perform a wheel alignment.
