Evaporator
Evaporator
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Robinair A/C Service Unit (ROB 134APF)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331/) (5 to 50 Nm)
• Drip Tray For Shop Crane (VAS 6208)
• Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Diameter (3094)
• Compressed air gun, commercially available
Danger due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.
Danger of frost bite to skin and other parts of the body.
• Extract the refrigerant and immediately open the refrigerant circuit after that.
• If the refrigerant was extracted more than 10 minutes in the past and the refrigerant circuit was not opened, extract the refrigerant again. Pressure in the refrigerant circuit is caused by evaporation.
• Refrigerant must be extracted before hand using, for example, the (ROB 134APF).
• The previously used service stations can still be used. Refer to the workshop equipment catalog.
• To prevent the entry of dampness all components of the refrigerant circuit which have been opened must be sealed with suitable plugs.
• Environmentally hazardous draining of refrigerant is an offense punishable by law.

5 Evaporator With Expansion Valve
6 Seal
• Pay attention that the seal is seated correctly.
7 Lower Section Of Evaporator Housing
Removing
- Disassemble the heater and A/C unit. Refer to => [ Heating and A/C Unit ] Heating and A/C Unit.
- Disassemble the evaporator housing. Refer to => [ Evaporator Housing ] Evaporator Housing.
- Remove the evaporator - 5 - from the evaporator housing lower section - 7 -.
Installing
• Before inserting the evaporator, check condensation water drain and clean drain if necessary.
• Before inserting evaporator, clean evaporator housing and the evaporator if necessary.
• After assembling both housing halves, check that the seals/insulation are seated correctly.
• If heat protection insulation is missing or not installed correctly, it can cause reduced performance of the A/C system (change of adjusted control characteristics of expansion valve due to radiant heat).
- When inserting the evaporator - A - into the evaporator housing, make sure that the seal - arrows - is not damaged.
- Check the seal - arrows - (it must be glued all the way around) before inserting the evaporator.
- Perform remaining installation operations in reverse order of removal.
