High Pressure Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Socket (T40058)

Removing

Danger of personal injury from the high fuel pressure!

• Reduce the fuel pressure down to residual pressure before opening the high pressure side of the fuel injection system.

• To reduce the remaining residual pressure, lay a clean cloth around the connector and carefully open the connector.

- Release the high side fuel pressure. Refer to => [ High Side Fuel Pressure, Releasing ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the right engine compartment cover. Refer to => [ Engine Compartment Cover ] Service and Repair.

- Loosen the clamp - 1 - and remove the intake air duct - 2 -.






- Press the release buttons - 1 - and remove the secondary air intake hose - 2 -.






- Open the clips - arrows -.






- Remove the upper air filter housing - 1 - from the lower air filter housing - 2 - and pull it out of the openings for the tabs - arrows -.






- Remove the nuts, bolts - arrows - and the shield - A -.






- Remove the bolt - arrow - and loosen the union nut - 1 -. Catch an leaking fuel with a cloth.






- Disconnect the hose - 2 -.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the high pressure pump with cam follower.

• Do not bend the high pressure line to a different angle.

Installing






- Check the cam follower - 1 - for damage and replace it if necessary.

- Lubricate the cam follower with oil and insert it with the tab - arrow A - into the guide - arrow B -.

- Assemble the socket (T40058) as follows:






• The large diameter - arrow 1 - faces the engine.

• The small diameter - arrow 2 - points to the socket.

- Rotate the crankshaft using the socket (T40058) and box end wrench in engine rotation direction- arrow -. While doing this, press the cam follower into the housing until it reaches the lowest point.






- Only lift the high pressure line slightly to insert the high pressure pump. Do not bend it.

- Replace the O-ring and install the high pressure pump.

Tightening specifications, refer to the following:

- Tighten the bolts for the high pressure pump, refer to => [ High Pressure Pump Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] High Pressure Pump Overview.

- Install the high pressure line. Refer to => [ High Pressure Line ] Service and Repair.
