Access/Start Authorization Switch (E415)

The access/start authorization switch (ignition lock) is inside the instrument panel next to the steering wheel.

When removing and installing components in visible area (switches, covers, trim, etc.), cover by taping the areas at which a prying tool (plastic wedge, screwdriver) will be positioned using commercially available adhesive tape.

Removal

Always follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting the battery. The battery cut-out will be deactivated and damage to the vehicle electrical equipment may occur if the connecting sequence is not followed exactly. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove radio or radio-navigation system.

- Remove the trim strip on the driver side.

- Remove both screws - 2 - on the inside of the instrument panel.






- Disconnect the connector and remove the access/start authorization switch - 1 - through the opening for the radio or radio/navigation system.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the screws on the access/start authorization switch to 1.5 Nm.
