Instrument Panel Crossmember







Instrument Panel Crossmember

If electrical wires are disconnected or removed and installed, corresponding diagrams or photos must be created. This ensures the original installation.

Removing

- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel ] Instrument Panel.

- Remove the knee airbag bracket. Refer to => [ Knee Airbag Bracket ] Knee Airbag Bracket.

- Remove the insulation - 1 - on the front passenger side.

- Remove the insulation - 2 - on the driver side.






- Unscrew the two retaining bolts - arrows - on the driver side and detach the retaining bracket - 1 -.






- Also detach the retaining bracket on the front passenger side as described.

- Remove the comfort system central control module (J393).

- Remove the comfort system central control module (J393) bracket.

- Remove the relay carrier in the left front footwell.

- Remove the vehicle electrical system control module (J519).

- Remove the wiper arms.

- Remove the plenum chamber cover.

- Remove the wiper frame, linkage and windshield wiper motor (V).

- Unscrew the bolt - 1 - in the plenum chamber on the driver side (20 Nm +90°).






The bolt - 1 - must be replaced when installing the instrument panel crossmember!

- Disconnect the steering column from the crossmember.

- Unscrew the two bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (20 Nm) on the left and right sides of the two tunnel supports.






Use a scriber to mark the height and side position of the crossmember in the vehicle around the nuts - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the nut - 1 - (20 Nm) on the front passenger side.

- Remove the 2 nuts - 2 - (20 Nm) on the driver side.






- Unscrew the bolt - 1 - on the front passenger side (10 Nm).

- Unscrew the bolts - 2 - and - 3 - (10 Nm).

- With a second technician, carefully remove the crossmember - 4 - from the vehicle.






Installation

If an instrument panel crossmember is replaced, 3 brackets must be taken from the old part.

- Unscrew the brackets - 2 -, - 6 - and - 7 - from the old part.

- Bolt the bracket - 2 - with the bolt - 1 - in the center of the crossmember (1.5 Nm).

- Bolt the bracket - 2 - with the bolt - 3 - (1.5 Nm).

- Bolt the right bracket - 6 - with the bolt - 5 - (8 Nm).

- Bolt the right bracket - 6 - with the bolt - 4 - (8 Nm).

- Bolt the left bracket - 7 - with the bolt - 8 - (8 Nm).

- Bolt the left bracket - 7 - with the bolt - 9 - (8 Nm).






- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Before installing the crossmember, line it up with the markings made before it was removed.
