Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester (VAS 5051)
- Remove rear wheels.
The brake rotors must turn freely. If necessary, press the brake pads slightly back.
(VAS 5051) , connecting and selecting functions, refer to => [ VAS 5051, Connecting and Selection Functions ] Testing and Inspection.

Air gap OK, example display on (VAS 5051) :
Air gap not OK, example display on (VAS 5051) :
1. Specified value in black letters
2. Actual value within the tolerance in blue letters
3. Actual value not with the tolerance in red letters
If the air gap is not within the tolerance, then perform the following:
- Remove the plug - arrow - from the parking brake adjusting nut.
- Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the brake rotor and turn the adjusting nut - A - against the resistance of the spring - B -.
• Turning the adjusting nut by one tooth equals approximately 0.15 mm.
- Calculate the difference between the specified value and the actual value and then divide the result by 0.15 mm. This determines the exact number of teeth the adjusting nut must be turned in the appropriate direction (to tighten or loosen).
Left Adjusting Nut
• Arrow - A - the air gap gets smaller (= tighter).
• Arrow - B - the air gap gets larger (= loose).
• Arrow - C - is the direction of travel.
• The adjusting nut on the right side of the vehicle is identical.
Right Adjusting Nut
• Arrow - A - the air gap gets smaller (= tighter).
• Arrow - B - the air gap gets larger (= loose).
• Arrow - C - is the direction of travel.
- Press the finish button after adjusting the air gap to update the actual value.
- Perform a basic setting on the electro-mechanical parking brake.
- Select the electro-mechanical parking brake and then "basic setting electro-mechanical parking brake".
- Install the plug - arrow - over the parking brake adjusting nut.
- Install rear wheels.
- Perform basic setting.
