Rear Brakes Overview
• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234) to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.
• Before removing brake caliper or disconnecting brake hose, brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2) must be inserted (this dissipates pressure).
1 Brake Disc/Brake Drum
• Internally ventilated brake disc: Diameter 330 mm
• Brake disc thickness: 28 mm
• Wear limit: 26 mm
• Brake drum: Diameter 210 mm
• Wear limit: 211 mm
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• to remove, first remove brake caliper, do not remove brake line.
2 Bolt
• 15 Nm
• Brake disc to wheel hub.
3 Bolt
• 15 Nm
• For the electro-mechanical parking brake adjusting nut.
4 Wheel Hub with Wheel Bearing
5 Brake Pads
• Thickness 10 mm without backing plate.
• Wear limit: 2 mm without backing plate.
• With wear indicator.
• When wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm), the warning lamp lights up in instrument cluster.
• Check the thickness.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.

6 Retaining Spring
• For the brake pads.
7 Wire for Brake Pad Wear Indicator
8 Brake Caliper
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Brake Caliper.
• Servicing, refer to => [ Rear Brake Caliper Overview ] Rear Brake Caliper Overview.
9 Bolt
• 30 Nm + 75° turn
• Always replace if removed.
• Service the thread in the wheel bearing housing. Refer to => [ Thread for the Threaded Brake Caliper Connection, Servicing ] Procedures.
10 Brake Hose
• Do not unscrew brake hose when replacing brake disc.
• Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
11 Bolt
• 8 Nm
12 Bracket
• Wire for brake pad wear indicator.
13 Brake Line
• 14 Nm
• Do not remove the brake hose when replacing brake pads or brake discs.
14 Bolt
• 10 Nm
15 Bracket
16 Wheel Bearing Housing
• Service the thread in the wheel bearing housing. Refer to => [ Thread for the Threaded Brake Caliper Connection, Servicing ] Procedures.
17 Brake Carrier Plate
• The wheel bearing unit must be removed.
18 Bolt
• 8 Nm
19 Brake Shoes
• Without wear indicator.
• Minimum brake pad thickness: 1 mm.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Parking Brake Shoes ] Parking Brake Shoes.
• Coat the brake shoe bar on the slide and side wall near the parking brake motor mount with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3. Refer to => [ Grease the brake shoes and the parking brake motor mount. ] Parking Brake Shoes.
20 Parking Brake Motor
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Parking Brake Motor ] Service and Repair.
• Coat the brake shoe mount on the slide and side walls with hot bolt paste G 052 112 A3. Refer to => [ Grease the brake shoes and the parking brake motor mount. ] Parking Brake Shoes
21 Clip
• Parking brake motor wiring harness bracket.
22 Bolt
• 65 Nm
• Parking brake motor to wheel bearing housing.
23 Return Spring
• Parking brake motor.
24 Spring Dowel Sleeve
25 Compression Spring
26 Pull-Spring
• Adjustment nut.
27 Adjustment Nut
• Adjusting the air gap, refer to => [ Air Gap, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
