Brake Pads
Brake Pads
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Piston Resetting Tool (T10145)
Removing
• When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove rear wheels.
- Disconnect the connector - 2 - for brake pad wear indicator.
- Remove the wire for the brake pad wear display from the brake caliper.
• Before pressing brake pads back, draw off brake fluid from reservoir using a bleeder bottle. Otherwise, especially if reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Press the brake pads off the brake disc.
- Remove brake caliper from wheel bearing housing.
- Remove brake caliper and secure with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not burden or damage the brake hose.
- Pry the brake pads out of the brake caliper with a screwdriver - arrows -; be sure not to damage the dust caps.
- Remove the outer brake pad from the brake caliper.
- Remove the inner brake pad just far enough out of the brake caliper until the connector for the brake pad wear display wire touches the spring.
- Carefully remove the contact sensor with the brake pad wear indicator wire from the brake pad and check for damage.
• Reuse undamaged contact sensors and wires.
Cleaning
Do not blow brake system using compressed air, the dust produced is harmful to health!
- Clean brake caliper.
• Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper.
Installing
• Before pressing piston into cylinder using piston resetting tool, brake fluid must be extracted from brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Press pistons back.
• The retaining springs must be seated correctly in the brake caliper.
- Place the wire for the brake pad wear display between the brake caliper and the spring and then insert it into the inner brake pad.
- Press the brake pads against the springs in the brake caliper and push them onto the pins - arrows -.
The brake pad must fit in the retaining spring and bolts correctly.
- Carefully place the brake caliper over the brake disc.
- Bolt brake caliper onto wheel bearing housing.
- Press the wire for the brake pad wear display into the opening in the brake caliper.
- Install the brake pad wear display connector - 2 - in the bracket on the brake caliper.
- Install wheels.
Tightening specification for wheel bolts
• After replacing brake pads and before moving vehicle, always depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check brake fluid level after replacing brake pad.
