Fuel Filter: Service and Repair






Fuel Filter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Wrench (T10202)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

The fuel filter is located in the left fuel tank opening, when viewed in the direction of travel.

Removing

- Read the safety precautions before starting. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply.

- Follow the rules of cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Fuel Supply.

- Remove the rear seat bench.

- Fold the carpet to the side.






- Loosen the nuts - 1 through 4 - on the flange cover.

- Remove the flange cover.

- Disconnect the connector - arrow - from the fuel filter flange.






- Remove the lock ring from the flange using the wrench (T10202).






- Lift the fuel filter flange and disconnect the connector - 1 - from the fuel level sensor.






Drain the fuel if necessary. Refer to => [ Fuel Tank, Draining ] Fuel Tank, Draining.

The ground wire - 2 - can remain connected.

- Remove the fuel lines - 1 and 2 - from the fuel filter housing.






Squeeze the button on the line couplings.

- Remove the fuel filter through the opening in the fuel tank.

- Drain the fuel filter housing.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Replace the flange seal.

- Make sure the fuel level sensor connector, the ground wire and the fuel lines are secure.

- Install the fuel filter flange in the direction of travel - arrow -.






The tab - 2 - must be between the tabs - 1 and 3 - on the fuel tank.

- Tighten the lock ring to 145 Nm using the wrench (T10202).
