Ignition System: Service and Repair
Ignition System Component Overview
• The engine speed sensor, - item 26 - in the => [ Cylinder Block and Attaching Components ] Service and Repair, is on the cylinder block.
1 Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage (N70, N127, N291, N292, N323, N324)
• Remove and install using the puller for ignition coil (T10095 A).
2 Connector
• Black
• Use the assembly tool (T10118) to disconnect.
3 Bracket
• For the knock sensor 1 connector.
4 Bolt
• 20 Nm
5 Connector
• Black, 3 pin.
• The sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
6 Knock Sensor 1 (G61)
• Component location: Cylinder block, exhaust side.
7 Bolt
• 20 Nm
• Tightening specification affects the function of the knock sensor.
8 Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster
• Identification: 32A
• With the sensor wheel for the camshaft position sensor 2.
• Installing the camshaft adjuster, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.
9 Cover
10 Connector
• Black, 3 pin
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
11 Bolt
• 10 Nm
12 Camshaft Position Sensor 2 (G163)
• For the exhaust camshaft.
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
13 Seal
• Always replace.
14 Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
• For the intake camshaft.
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
15 Knock Sensor 2 (G66)
• Component location: Cylinder block, intake side.
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
16 Connector
• Black, 2 pin.
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts are gold plated.
17 Intake Camshaft Adjuster
• Identification: 24E
• With the sensor wheel for the camshaft position sensor.
• Installing the camshaft adjuster, refer to => [ Camshaft Adjuster ] Camshaft Adjuster.
18 Spark Plug
• 18 Nm
• Remove and install using the spark plug removal tool (3122 B)
• Type and electrode gap, refer to => [ Spark Plug Technical Data ] [1][2]Spark Plug.
19 Control Housing
• For camshaft adjustment.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshafts ] Camshafts.
