Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527)

The Airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (F138) and the Steering angle sensor (G85) are integrated in the steering column electronic systems control module.

- Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Module ] Steering Column Switch Module.

Steering must be in center position (wheels in straight ahead position) when removing and installing coil connector with slip ring.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.






- Open the hooks - arrows - and remove the steering column electronics control module - 2 - from the steering column switch module - 3 -.

- Disconnect the connectors from the steering column electronics control module - 3 -.






- Position a screwdriver, as illustrated, on the hooks - 2 - and - 4 - and carefully unlock the connectors - 1 - and - 5 - in - direction of arrow A -.

- Remove the steering column electronics control module from the steering column switch module.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification given in the overview. Refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Overview ] Steering Column Switch Overview.

- Make sure all retaining hooks and connectors are engaged securely.

After installing a new steering column electronics control module, it must be coded. Refer to => [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527), Coding ] Testing and Inspection.
