Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397)
Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397)
• Removing and installing Rain Sensor (G213) and Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397) is identical.
• If the rain sensor was replaced by another rain sensor having a different part number, it is necessary to code the new rain sensor. Refer to => [ Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397), Coding ] Testing and Inspection.
• Rain sensors cannot be interchanged. Be sure to use the correct rain sensor. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
Removal
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
- Remove the interior rearview mirror.
- Carefully pry out the rain/light recognition sensor - 1 - with a flat-blade screwdriver.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - and the rain/light recognition sensor - 2 -.
Installing the Previously Removed Rain Sensor
• Always clean the windshield surface inside the rain/light recognition sensor bracket with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 before installing. Remove any traces of the connecting pad still remaining on the windshield.
• Surface (connecting pads) of Rain/Light Recognition Sensor must not be soiled or damaged when installing.
- Carefully remove the sensor film - 2 - from the rain sensor - 1 - or from the windshield.
- Clean the windshield around the retaining plate.
- Also remove the remaining sensor film from the rain sensor.
- Clean the surfaces with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
The surfaces on the sensor must be completely free of any remaining film.
- Remove the silicon paper - 3 - from the sensor film - 2 -.
- The see-through protective film - 1 - serves as an assembly aid and remains on the sensor film.
- Using the see through protective film - 1 -, place the sensor film onto the rain sensor - 2 -.
- Press the sensor film as shown through the protective film - 1 - without any bubbles onto the rain sensor - 2 -.
- Now remove the see through protective film - 1 - from the sensor film - 2 -.
- Insert the sensor into the mirror base.
• Even if the sensor is installed correctly, small air bubbles can form between the windshield and the connecting pad. The contact surface must be free-of-bubbles after approximately 10 minutes.
The rain sensor must have no embedded objects or bubbles between it and the windshield to function properly.
- Connect harness connector.
- Insert the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) into the retaining plate on the windshield press it in secure.
- Install the interior rearview mirror.
Replacing the Rain Sensor
• Perform the procedure previously described above to remove the sensor.
- Completely remove any remaining film for the previous rain sensor from the windshield if necessary.
- Clean the sensor contact surface on the windshield with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
- Press the grip surfaces - arrows - lightly together at the cap - 1 - and then remove them from the rain sensor - 2 -.
- Insert the sensor into the mirror base.
- Press the sensor onto the windshield without any bubbles and install the retaining clip on the mirror base.
• Even if the sensor is installed correctly, small air bubbles can form between the windshield and the connecting pad. The contact surface must be free-of-bubbles after approximately 10 minutes.
The rain sensor must have no embedded objects or bubbles between it and the windshield to function properly.
- Install the interior rearview mirror.
- Code the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) if necessary. Refer to => [ Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397), Coding ] Testing and Inspection.
