Battery Interrupt Igniter (N253)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
The battery interrupt igniter is located in Fuse panel D (SD) next to the battery under the left front seat.
• The battery interrupt igniter cannot be reset if it has gone off. It must be replaced.
Always follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting the battery. The battery cut-out will be deactivated and damage to the vehicle electrical equipment may occur if the connecting sequence is not followed exactly. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.
Removal
Always follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting the battery. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the bolt - 1 -, disconnect the 3 connectors - 2 - and remove the cover - 3 -.
- Remove the nut - 2 -.
- Remove the nuts - 3 - (depending on the vehicle equipment level) and wires - 4 -.
- Open the latches - arrows - and remove the cover from Fuse panel D (SD) - 1 -.
- Remove the nuts - 3 - and the Battery interrupt igniter - 2 -. Be careful of the different wires still connected.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - and remove the battery interrupt igniter - 2 -.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Tighten the threaded connections - 3 - to 20 Nm.
• Always follow the procedure described in repair information when connecting the battery. The battery cut-out will be deactivated and damage to the vehicle electrical equipment may occur if the connecting sequence is not followed exactly. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.
• Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.
- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
