Undamaged Rear Window, Removing
• If the windshield is to be used again, make sure that electrical connections are not damaged.
• Depending on the optional equipment, without rear window defogger and rear window wiper.
Perform the following:
Remove the rear lid trim.
- Remove the rear window wiper (if present).
- Disconnect the left and right connections - 2 - (if present) for the rear window defogger and secure them to the window with adhesive tape.
- Depending on the optional equipment, disconnect the antenna connections - 3 - and secure to the rear window with adhesive tape.
- Press the awl (V.A.G 1474/2) - 1 - through the adhesive bead in the area of the metal opening for the connection of the rear window defogger - 2 -.
- Pull the cutting wire - 3 - inside through adhesive using awl (V.A.G 1474/2) - 1 -.
- Secure the cutting wire end - 3 - with the pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1) - 1 - prior to removal.
- Lay the cutting wire - 3 - around the rear window and guide the second cord end toward the inside.
- Secure the cutting wire end to the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) - 2 -.
- Position the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) - 2 - as shown.
- Move the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) - 2 - according to the position required and cut the rear window free.
- During the cutting free operation, press the cutting cord - 3 - against the rear window using the wedge (V.A.G 1474/5) in order to have clearance at the window flange.
