Service check of cold start device
As part of every 30,000 mile (48,000 km) maintenance service, the cold start device should be checked when checking/adjusting idle speed.
Check/adjust cold start device
Cold engine.
Measure distance between injection pump lever and idle stop screw.
Note:
The cold start device should be engaged.
Distance should be 3 mm.
Use gauge 5285.
To adjust
The distance between the cold start device lever and stop screw can be adjusted as follows:
Loosen ball stop screw. Place gauge 5285 or feeler gauge in position. Move ball stop to correct position. Retighten screw and remove gauge.
Check fast Idle
Connect Volvo Mono-Tester. Start engine and check that idle speed is 200 rpm higher than value obtained when engine was warm, i.e. approximately 950 rpm.
Warm-up engine
Warm-up engine and check that cold start device stop does not contact injection pump lever.
