Introduction

Unbalanced or out-of-round tires and rims are a prime source of vehicle body and/or steering wheel vibration. Listed are the most likely but sometimes overlooked conditions that can cause these problems.

UNBALANCE

- Dirt collected on wheel rim (inside or outside)

- Incorrectly mounted tire or rim.

- Unequal weight distribution of material during manufacture of tire or rim.

- Uneven tire wear.

OUT-OF-ROUND

- Incorrectly mounted tire or rim.

- Damaged or deformed tire or rim (eccentric/oval)

- Uneven tire deflection when rotating on the ground under load.

NOTE! Before engaging in a lengthy troubleshooting procedure perform a check of wheel balance using an on-the-car balancing machine. A typical balancing procedure is contained in this bulletin.
