Fig. 373 CONNECT VOLVO MONO-TESTER:
1. Connect VOLVO MONO-TESTER Fig. 373. to battery terminals. HT lead goes to #1 cylinder. Connect ignition setting transmitter. Connect CO test point to green - white wire.

2. Check and adjust idle speed with air conditioner off (750 ± 20 RPM) and engine at operating temperature. Fig. 329.
3. Adjust with idle adjustment screw if necessary.

4. Check ignition setting (12 ±2 °) at idle speed. Fig. 089. Adjust timing by turning distributor.

5. Turn adjustment knob on MONO-TESTER to setting dwell angle 4 cyl.Fig. 374.
6. If CO content is correct, needle should fluctuate between 20 - 70°.
Fig. 370 REMOVE CO ADJUSTMENT SEAL:
7. To adjust CO, turn off engine.
8. Drill two 2 mm (0.08 in.) holes into the plug. Fig. 370.
Fig. 371 CO ADJUSTMENT:
9. Remove plug with needle nose or circlip pliers.
10. Start engine and run to operating temperature.
11. Adjust CO content to 20 - 70°. Fig. 371. Adjusting range for screw is 15 turns. If CO reading is greater than 70°, turn adjustment screw counter clockwise to reduce CO content. If CO reading is less than 20°, turn adjustment screw clockwise to increase CO content.

12. Ground red - white wire at test connector Fig. 368. located in front of passenger side strut tower.

13. Check and adjust idle speed with air conditioner off (700 RPM). Fig. 329.
14. Remove ground wire from test connector.
15. Engine speed should now be 750 ± 20 RPM. If idle speed is incorrect, see "IDLE SPEED" for more adjustment procedures.
16. Turn off engine. Disconnect all test equipment.
17. Seal CO adjustment screw with new plug. Tap new plug into position.
