Note: To rectify cold start complaints on engines with LH 2.4, complete control units may only be replaced on model years 1989-90 with 3-digit BOSCH production date codes (see illus.) of 949 or lower. ECU's with a date code of 9SO through 071 must have the E-prom replaced instead. Refer to service builetin.25-202/704.
The following procedure must be observed when replacing a control unit.
1). If the cold start kit, p/n 3531106-7, has been installed, IT MUST BE REMOVED prior to installing the exchange control unit. Programming to improve cold starting is already included in replacement control units.
2). Make sure that all available diagnostic procedures have been performed, including checks of basic engine parameters such as compression, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, electrical connectors, etc. Ensure that other possible problem sources have been ruled out. Procedures for fault tracing LH 2.4 system have recently been updated in service manual TP 31354/2.
3). Where appropriate, check the throttle setting according to service bulletin 25-202/704.
WARRANTY STATEMENT: Normal routines for warranty consideration of replaced control units, including testing of returned units, will be applied. It is important therefore, that proper and careful diagnosis be performed to avoid costly repeat repairs and inconvenience to our customers.
