Adjustment W/ Volvo Test Diode

Fig. 364 CONNECT VOLVO TEST DIODE:





1. Connect VOLVO test diode #5280.
2. Connect test diode green - white wire to test connector located in front of passenger side strut tower (test connector also has green - white wire).
3. The test diodes red wire should be connected to the battery positive terminal (+). Fig. 364.
4. Connect tachometer and timing light.
5. Run engine to operating temperature and 10 minutes beyond.

6. Check and adjust ignition setting (16° ±2) at idle speed. Fig. 366. Timing can be adjusted by turning distributor.

7. Check CO content. Test diode Fig. 342. should blink if CO content is correct.
8. If test diode remains on, the CO content is to high.
9. If test diode remains off, the CO content is to low.

10. To adjust CO, turn off engine.
11. Drill two 2 mm (0.08 in.) holes into the plug. Fig. 349.

12. Remove plug with needle nose or circlip pliers.
13. Start engine and run to operating temperature.
14. Adjust CO content until test diode starts to flash. Adjusting range for screw is 15 turns. Counter clockwise reduces CO content, clockwise increases CO content. Fig. 350.
15. Turn off engine. Disconnect all test equipment.
16. Seal CO adjustment screw with new plug. Tap new plug into position.
