Turbocharger
***UPDATED BY TSB 2512, SEPTEMBER 1988
Proper lubrication is essential for proper turbocharger operation. Since it is lubricated by engine oil pressure, three important practices should be observed:
1. Do not race engine immediately after starting. Let engine idle to provide initial lubrication.
2. Do not switch engine off while running at high RPM as turbocharger will continue to spin at high RPM without oil pressure. Letting engine idle before shut down will also lower turbine temperatures.
3. The oil and filter must be changed every 3,750 miles (6,250 km) or every 6 months. Oil must meet API Service SE-CC or SF-CC. Do not use SE-CD oils. It is strictly recommended that the following viscosities are used on all turbo charged engines:
-22° or below to 68°F (-30° or below to 20°C) 5W-30
-4° to 104°F (-20° to 40°C) 10W-30
6° to 104°F or above (-15° to 40°C or above) 15W-40
