Modification of climate control system to improve recirculation

A method of modifying the climate control system recirculation (REC) function has been developed. When REC is selected, the modified system uses a greater percentage of the air in the passenger compartment, minimizing the entry of exhaust gases, for example when driving in heavy traffic.

The method involves fitting a sealing strip to the air intake to seal the air gap between the recirculation damper and the air intake housing.

Remove:
- windshield wiper arms
- cowl panel
- rain guard over air intake housing
- lower stay over air intake housing

Note!
Since the cowl panel may be difficult to remove, tape the rear edge of the hood to protect the paintwork.

Modification
- sealing strip, P/N 1358314-1, will need to be cut to approx. length of 11 5 mm.
- test fit strip between damper and opening in air intake housing.
- adjust length to ensure that strip seals at each end.

- press sealing edges (A) together and install strip as illustrated.

Note:
Lip should face upwards (B)

- verify recirculation function

Reinstall:
- lower stay over air intake housing
- rain guard over air intake housing, add/replace with butyl tape, P/N 1277210-9 if needed
- replace plastic sleeves for cowl fender mounts, P/N 1334578-0, if needed
- wiper arms, torque to 16 N-m (12 ft.lbs.)
