This service bulletin supersedes earlier SB 28-818 which can be discarded.

Replacing knock sensor (KS)

If the On-Board Diagnostic system has registered a DTC from the Knock Sensor (KS), the service manual should be used to fault trace the source of the DTC. If the source is determined to be sensor-related, both sensors must be replaced. The instructions below provide replacement method.

The following material is required when replacing a knock sensor (KS) (from the earlier to later types).

- Kit P/N 272234-6.

The service kit contains:

Knock sensor (KS),
Brackets (2)
Adapter wiring
Clips
Receptacle housing, 4, 8/2, 8 black, (x 2)
Cable terminal 4, 8/2, 8, (x 6, of which 2 are spare)
Cable seal, blue, (x 6 of which 2 are spare)

And:

- Protective sleeve P/N 979236-7 (sold by the meter)

- Tie strap (2)

- Insulation tape

Preparations:

Remove:

- Battery negative lead.

- Throttle pulley cover.

- Throttle cable.

Remove:

- Ignition lead cover.





- Upper hose (A) from crankcase ventilation oil trap on cylinder head.
