DTC 233
EAZ. Code 2-3-3
2-3-3 Incorrect speedometer signal
DTC information
Conditions for DTC
The combined instrument supplies vehicle speed information to the transmission control module (TCM). The signal is a variable-frequency uniform square wave where the frequency increases as the road speed increases. The TCM uses the signal to determine whether the transmission changes gear at the proper speeds. The TCM also uses the RPM sensor sensor to determine vehicle speed. If the TCM registers an unusually large variation in the speed signal from the combined instrument DTC 2-3-2 is set.
Substitution value
Control Module GROUP I:
The transmission control module (TCM) "Emergency mode" program has been initiated.
Control Module GROUP II:
The transmission control module (TCM) "Emergency mode II" program is initiated.
Defect cause
- Loose contact in the wiring or cable splices
- Cable insulation damaged
- Contact resistance in connections.
Fault symptom
- Rough gear shifting due to maximum system pressure in the transmission and no engine torque reduction
- No Lock-Up operational.
- Fault-tracing starts with EAZ1.

- Read off other DTCs
If DTC 2-3-2 is stored:
- Fault-tracing as per EAY. DTC 2-3-2 Speedometer signal absent.
If DTC 2-3-2 is not stored:
- Checking wiring and connections EAZ2.
EAZ2
Checking wiring and connections
- Check the connector to the transmission control module (TCM) and the combined instrument connectors for loose connections as per FA5, and contact resistance and oxidation as per FA6. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
- Check the vehicle speed sensor VSS connector for loose connections as per FA5, and contact resistance and oxidation as per FA6. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
- Check the wiring between the vehicle speed sensor VSS connector 1 and 2 and the combined instrument #A3 and #A2 for intermittent break as per FA2, intermittent short circuit to supply as per FA4 and intermittent short circuit to ground as per FA3, FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
- Check the cable between the combined instrument connector terminal #A6 and the TCM #B18 for intermittent break as per FA2 and intermittent short circuit to supply as per FA4 and intermittent short circuit to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
- On cars with electronic climate control (ECC), also check the cable between the ECC control module #24 and the combined instrument #A6 for intermittent short circuits to supply as per FA4 and intermittent short circuits to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
- Cars with trip computers: Also check the wiring between combined instrument #D4 and the trip computer #4 for intermittent short-circuit to supply as per FA4. and for intermittent short-circuit to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
