DTC 333
EBK. Code 3-3-3
3-3-3 Short-circuit to ground in solenoid SL circuit
DTC information
Conditions for DTC
Solenoid SL controls the transmission lock-up function. Solenoid SL operates when battery voltage is applied from the transmission control module (TCM). The solenoid is activated during different driving conditions depending on road speed, throttle position TP and the driving mode selected. If the TCM registers a short-circuit to ground on the solenoid SL circuit when the solenoid should be activated, the DTC 3-3-3 is set. Solenoid SL cannot then be activated.
Substitution value
Control Modules GROUP I:
No substitution value
Control Modules GROUP II:
The transmission control module (TCM) "Emergency mode I" program has been initiated.
Defect cause
- Short circuit to ground in the signal wiring.
- Malfunction in solenoid
Fault symptom
- No Lock-Up operational.
- Fault-tracing starts with EBK1.
EBK1
Checking solenoid SL
- Ignition ON.
- Set gearshift selector to position P.
Check solenoid SL using Diagnostic Test Mode 4. Diagnostic Test Mode 4 Use a stethoscope to hear it the solenoid is operating.
If solenoid Is operating:
- intermittent fault. Fault-tracing as per EBK4.
If the solenoid is not operating:
- Check signal wiring resistance to ground in the transmission EBK2.
EBK2
Checking signal wiring resistance to ground in the transmission.
- Ignition OFF
- Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing to access the transmission connector
- Disconnect the transmission connector
Connect an ohmmeter between the transmission connector terminal 23 (transmission side) and the transmission housing.
The ohmmeter should read 10-15 Ohms.
If reading is OK:
- Check the cable between the transmission connector terminal 23 and the TCM #A9 for short circuit to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
If reading Is Incorrect:
- Checking resistance in solenoid SL EBK3.
EBK3
Checking resistance in solenoid SL
- Ignition OFF
- Open the control system, as per R1-R13.
- Disconnect solenoid SL.
Use an ohmmeter to measure between the pin on solenoid SL and the transmission housing.
The ohmmeter should read 10-15 Ohms.
If reading is OK:
Check the cable between the solenoid SL and transmission connector terminal 23 for short circuit to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
If replacing cable harness, refer to R49-R57.
If reading is incorrect:
- Try a new solenoid SL as per R20.
EBK4
Intermittent fault
Checking wiring and connections
- Check the wiring between solenoid SL in the transmission and TCM #A9 for intermittent short circuit to ground as per FA3. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
