Section B - Sun Shade

NOISE FROM SUNSHADE

This section describes how to repair noise caused by the sunshade

Rattling noise from sides or front

OCCURS:

^ If the guide rails or slide block are not contacting. (Component 8 in the illustration sunroof components.

ANALYSIS METHOD:

^ Remove sunroof according to instructions in the service manual, and check if the distance between the rail and block is too great by banging on the sunshade from the inside. No rattling should occur when the shade moves.

ACTION:




- Install new thicker tape sections (approx.1 mm, 3/64") (A) (P/N 6812838-8) on the sunshade below the 4 slide blocks (B).

- Install 1 securing dip (C) (P/N 9133519-8 above each of the four slide blocks.)

- Install thicker tape if the noise is still there after the operation is completed.

- Reinstall sunroof according to the service manual (see below).

- Reinstall panels according to the service manual (see below).

- Operate the sunroof forward and backward and check that the noise has stopped.

- Bang lightly on the sunshade from the inside and check that the noise has stopped.

Note
Check the sliding action of the roof and ensure that it is not stiff.

SQUEAKING/SCRAPING NOISE

OCCURS:

^ Usually when the sunshade is moved forward or backward.
(Component 9 in the illustration sunroof components.)

ANALYSIS METHOD:

^ Check that there is no adhesive residue chafing on the rails at the side of the sunshade.

^ Pull the sunshade forward and backward, noting in which position the noise occurs.

ACTION:




- Remove sunroof according to the service manual: Section 8 (82-86, 88) Interior, exterior 850- 1993-.

- Remove any adhesive residue from the joint between the headliner and the upholstery in the comers of the sunshade.

- Pull the sunshade forward and backward to ensure that the noise has been repaired.
