Section A - Gutter

NOISE FROM REAR EDGE

This section describes how to repair noise caused by the gutter.

A1

RATTLING NOISE

Occurs:

^ Usually heard from the rear edge of the sunroof.

ANALYSIS METHOD:

^ Increase tire pressure to the maximum permitted pressure for the tire type fitted on the car.

^ Drive car on an uneven road surface and attempt to determine whether the noise is high or low frequency.

^ Open the rear edge of the sunroof and check the thickness of the two felt tapes at the gutter.

REDUCTION OF HIGH FREQUENCY NOISE:

- Remove sunroof.

- Unscrew the two screws (A) on each side retaining the gutter.

- Install new, thicker tape sections of the same size (B) (P/N 6812838-8) over the existing tape.

REDUCTION OF LOW FREQUENCY NOISE:

- Open rear edge of sunroof to Tilt position and twist the front edge of the gutter up by hand at several points. Begin from the center of the gutter.

OTHER:

- Reduce pressure in the tires. (Excessive tire pressure can cause vibration end rattles).

- Test drive and check that the noise has stopped.

- Repeat procedure if required.
