Connecting and disconnecting control modules

Always turn off the ignition when connecting or disconnecting control modules.

- Ignition OFF

Control Modules

- Do not expose the control modules to temperatures over +80°C (176°F). Remove the control modules if the car is to be oven-painted.

- Remove the control modules if welding the car.

- Do not replace control modules without first checking the electrical connections, wiring and components. Otherwise the same fault that damaged the old module could damage the new one as well.

Ignition OFF when:

- Connecting and disconnecting test instruments.
- Connecting and disconnecting connectors
- Measuring using an ohmmeter.

Battery

Normal battery voltage (approx. 12 V) is important when testing the car system components. If necessary a battery charger can be connected during measuring operations.

Maximum permitted charge:

15 A at 16 V

- Do not remove the battery leads when the engine is running.
- Remove the battery leads when boost charging the battery.
- Do not use a boost charger or higher voltage than 16 V when jump starting.

High Tension

Caution: The ignition is a high tension system. Touching the ignition coil, spark plug caps or the distributor cover or any other part of the high tension system is dangerous.

High voltages are found in the whole ignition system and that includes the connectors etc

Radio

NOTE: Make a note of the radio code before disconnecting the battery leads and the car is without voltage supply. Re-enter the code when the work has been completed.

Towing

NOTE:
- Gear shift selector in position N
- Correct oil level in the transmission
- Maximum permitted speed: 20 km/h (12 mph)
- Longest permitted towing distance: 30 km (18 miles)

If uncertain about how much oil is in the transmission or its overall condition, tow the car with the wheels lifted off the road.
