Replacement of door lock switches

REFERENCE: TP 31854/1 (ENGLISH); 5/92; INTERIOR, EXTERIOR
To eliminate the necessity of replacing the complete door lock if only the interior/courtesy light switch or alarm switch is faulty, the switches will be stocked as replacement parts.

REMOVAL OF DOOR LOCK
- Remove door lock as described in Service Manual, TP 31854/1.
Dismantling of lock
- Cut and discard tie (A) securing wiring to cover.
- Remove and discard tapes (B) securing wiring.
- Turn unit upside down and use screwdriver to push out locking plugs in mounting pins inside cover (C) as illustrated in lower picture. Retain plugs. Pry cover carefully away from lever mounting (D), taking care not to damage wiring and cover.

REPLACEMENT OF CENTRAL LOCKING MOTOR, INCLUDING WIRING AND SWITCHES
Remove from door lock unit:
- central locking motor (A).
- interior/courtesy light switch (B). Switch is mounted in two clips. Pry catches aside and remove switch by lifting straight upward. Also see Section D.
- alarm switch (C). Discard holder (D) if it is of the fusible locking type.
- central locking motor screws (two) (E).
Note:
Central locking motor and switches, including wiring, comprise a complete replacement. See parts list.
Install:
- new central locking motor (A).
- interior light switch (B) in clip.
- alarm switch (C) and holder (D).
- alarm switch and holder on mounting plate. Secure by means of locking clip (F) fitted to mounting pins on opposite side of mounting plate (see illustration).
Note:
On earlier models with chassis Nos. up to 38700, the alarm switch holder is of the fusible locking type. This should be replaced by a new holder and locking clip. See parts list.
Reinstall:
- lock cover. Reinstall lock in door as described in Section E.

REPLACEMENT OF ALARM SWITCH
Remove/disconnect:
- alarm switch (A). Discard holder (B) if it is of the fusible locking type. Also see above Note.
- one lead at a time. Solder each lead to corresponding terminal pin on new switch (C) as illustrated.
Install:
- new alarm switch (C) in plastic holder and in lock as described in Section B.
Reinstall:
lock cover. Reinstall lock in door as described in Section E.

REPLACEMENT OF INTERIOR/COURTESY LIGHT SWITCH
Remove/disconnect:
- switch (A) from lock unit by carefully prying catches aside and lifting switch straight away from guide pins (B), which engage in small holes in side of switch.
- one lead at a time. Solder each lead to corresponding terminal pin on new switch (C).
Install:
- new switch (C) in clip in lock unit.
Reinstall:
- lock cover. Reinstall lock in door as described in Section E.
E
REASSEMBLY OF LOCK AND INSTALLATION OF LOCK IN DOOR
Reinstall:
- black cover (A) by pressing gently into position around lever mounting (B) until cover is secured by flange on mounting. Take care to avoid damage to wiring.
- locking plugs in cover mounting pins (see insert illustration).
Install:
- new cable tie (C) to secure wiring to cover.
- new tapes (D) to secure wiring at central locking motor lead openings.
Reinstall:
- lock in door as described in Service Manual, TP 31854/1.
Test operation of lock and switches.
