To Be Observed When Fault Tracing Alarm System

Locking the door mechanism by hand with the door open

When fault tracing it can be practical to have the driver's door open. The lock mechanism can be placed in closed position by forcing in the latch with a screwdriver.

Upon completing fault tracing, the latch can be returned to open position by opening the door by means of the outer or inner door handles.

Manual closure of the door contacts

The door contacts affect the alarm function. If desired, the door contacts can be closed (although the door is open) by pressing them in and turning clockwise. The door contacts are returned to position when the door is shut once more.

Turn off the ignition when:

- Connecting and disconnecting test instruments.
- Plugging in and unplugging the central locking relay and the alarm control module.
- Connecting and disconnecting contacts.
- Measuring with an ohmmeter.
- Measuring with a voltmeter unless otherwise stated in the instructions.

Battery

When the various components are tested, it is important for battery voltage to be normal. If necessary, a battery charger can be connected during testing.

Maximum permitted charging current:
15 Amps at 16 Volts.
- Do not disconnect leads when the engine is running.
- Disconnect battery leads when boosting.

The alarm control module

While fault tracing, the control module should in most cases be removed, so that measurements can be made in the relay bases.

The module should be replaced upon completion of fault tracing.

In order to test activation/deactivation the control module must be plugged in.

Fuses

Make a habit of always checking that relevant fuses are intact before commencing fault tracing.

Measurements with an ohmmeter/voltmeter

Take care when measuring pins or sockets in connectors or relay bases so as to avoid damage to pins and to prevent electrical faults being caused in the system. Use a matching pin in the correct relay base item.

Follow the instructions carefully when taking readings. Observe the correct setting of the ignition if an ohmmeter or voltmeter is to be used and the items where measurements are to be taken.
- Place the test meter probes carefully on the pins.
- Never force the test probe into a connector.

Bridging

Take care when bridging so that no damage is done.
Carry out any bridging at the items described in the relevant instructions.

For simple bridging on items for control signals (normally to ground) use a short lead with stripped ends.

For bridging item H (horn) and item L/R (flashers) with battery voltage in the relay base, use a heavy lead (e.g. 1.5mm) with flat connectors 6.3.
