Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Service Precautions
BATTERYWhen testing different components, it is important that the battery voltage should be at nominal (approx. 12 volts). Connect battery charger before testing if necessary. Maximum permitted charge current: 15 amps at 16 volts. Do not remove leads with engine running. Remove battery leads during rapid charging. Do not use rapid charger or a voltage greater than 16 volts when jump-starting. Disconnect battery negative lead Before replacing electrical components, always switch the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Once repairs are complete: Reconnect negative battery terminal once all parts have been fitted.
CAUTION: To avoid any damage to radio microprocessor, switch radio off before disconnecting negative battery lead.
CONTROL MODULE
Remove control module during storing etc. Control module must not be heated over 80°C. Remove connectors from control modules when arc-welding, and remove the control module itself if carrying out arc-welding close by. Do not replace control module without checking leads and components: if there is a fault, it may otherwise damage the new control module in the same way as it did the old one. When connecting and disconnecting control module always disconnect the power supply to the control module before fitting or removing connectors or test box. Switch ignition off and Undo battery negative lead. Switch ignition off also before: Connecting or removing test equipment. Connecting or disconnecting connectors. Connecting or disconnecting leads. Taking ohmmeter readings.
HIGH VOLTAGE
Warning: The ignition system uses high voltages. This means it is dangerous to come into contact with high-voltage circuits such as the coil, spark plug caps and distributor cap.
RISK OF FIRE
Take great care to avoid producing sparks.
