Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Important

Battery
- When testing different components, it is important that the battery voltage should be at nominal (approx. 12 volts). Connect battery charger before testing it necessary.
Maximum permitted charge current:
- 15 amps at 16 volts.
- Do not remove leads with engine running.
- Remove battery leads during rapid charging.
- Do not use rapid charger or a voltage greater than 16 volts when jump-starting.

Disconnect battery negative lead
- Before replacing electrical components, always switch the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Once repairs are complete:
- Reconnect negative battery terminal once all parts have been fitted.
Important: radios with microprocessors
- To avoid any damage to radio microprocessor, switch radio off before disconnecting negative battery lead.

Control module
- Remove control module during stoving etc. Control module must not be heated over +80°C.
- Remove connectors from control modules when arc-welding, and remove the control module itself if carrying out arc-welding close by.
- Do not replace control module without checking leads and components: if there is a fault, it may otherwise damage the new control module in the same way as it did the old one.

Connecting and disconnecting control module
- Always disconnect the power supply to the control module before fitting or removing connectors or test box.
- Switch ignition off.
- Undo battery negative lead

Switch ignition off also before:
- Connecting or removing test equipment.
- Connecting or disconnecting connectors.
- Connecting or disconnecting leads.
- Taking ohmmeter readings.

High voltage Warning
- The ignition system uses high voltages. This means it is dangerous to come into contact with high-voltage circuits such as the coil, spark plug caps and distributor cap.

Risk of fire
- Take great care to avoid producing sparks.
