Checking Engine Oil Pressure

SPECIAL TOOLS
- Adapter Kit tool No. 998 8747, or equivalent
- Instrument Kit tool No. 999 5270, or equivalent

PROCEDURE





1. Check engine oil level
- Top up level as required.
- Change oil and replace filter if quality and grade of oil and/ or filter condition cannot be ascertained.





2. Check oil pressure switch
Jack up car.
Check:
- switch and connector wiring
- switch type and function (test with new switch)
- check for open-circuits in wiring between switch and warning lamp

NOTE: Use new gasket between switch and cylinder block when finally installing switch.

Remove engine wiring harness bracket.





3. Checking oil pressure
- Use instrument kit tool No. 999 5270, or equivalent, consisting of:
Adapter C (kit items B11-B14), or equivalent
Hose tool No. 999 5272, or equivalent
Gauge tool No. 999 5271, or equivalent
- Connected to pressure switch tapping in cylinder block.
- Connect rev counter using adapter kit tool No. 998 8747, or equivalent.
- Start engine and read oil pressure at different speeds.

Minimum Oil Pressure [1]
At 750 rpm: 0.10 MPa (14.5 psi)
At 2000 rpm: 0.25 MPa (36 psi)
At 3000 rpm: 0.30 MPa (43 psi)
At 4000 rpm: 0.35 MPa (49 psi)

Maximum Oil Pressure [1]
At Relief Valve Opening 0.70 MPa (99 psi)

[1] Specified oil pressure applies with oil temperature at 100° C, which is reached after 10-15 minutes running.
